Ethics In Leadership
Ramblings about Leadership, Ethics, Management and Philosophy
Who's silly ramblings are these?
Greetings...
Over the course of my life I've often struggled to evade getting mired in philosophical arguments, thought experiments, and various mental tangents, so I could focus on some objective at hand. At first it was school objectives, then it evolved into work and home objectives. At this point, I suppose I've finally decided maybe it's not that imprudent to let myself wander down those lines of thought now and again when I'm not at work.
I started this blog to channel my ramblings into, and I elected to choose the name Ethics in Leadership because I most often find myself pondering those two issues separately, or in union. Ethics is a complex and historically mutable thing. Leadership and Management are not one in the same, despite a seemingly common misconception. I've seen, and perhaps been victim to, excellent leaders with poor management skills, and poor leaders with outstanding management skills. Why is this? What lessons can we learn? Why do we, so often, think of leadership and management as 'soft skills' which don't require the same effort upkeep and dedicated learning as engineering skill sets?
I started life as a United States Marine, serving from 2006 to 2011 where I was honorably discharged as a Corporal. I became a software engineer and game developer out of passion and love for technology and games. Eventually I evolved into an Engineering Manager out of love for a more complex 'architectural' problem- how to interface 'systems' of human beings.
Speaking of human beings, I'm a husband to a wonderful wife, and father to a brilliant daughter.
